Adventures in cyclocross

The neighbors are probably wondering why we have PVC piping in our front yard. Some rock the pink flamingos or bathtub Mary’s, but around here, it’s cyclocross season, and we needed some cheap practice barriers.

I may talk a big game, but I’m pretty much a cyclocross virgin. I’ve watched a couple of races, Belgian brew in hand, and thought, “Hey, I should try this.” So I am. Next week.

I’m usually an overplanner when it comes to bike training, but cross season snuck up on me. I’ve been adding some intensity through fast group rides and riding a dirt/grass loop I set up at the local park. But it’s the mounts and dismounts that are coming along slowly. Perhaps I bit off more than I can chew. Hence the PVC pipes. I have a couple of bruises, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it.

One week until CX at Brewery  Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY.  Bring it! I’ll be there…

Envious of our pipe art? Check out Rob’s post on building your own cross barriers.
