As we tiptoe toward Spring (yes, it snowed here this week), there are some signs of exciting things to come. On Thursday I visited my trusty bike mechanic who replaced my failed shifter with a spare from my cross bike. I also picked up my team kit for Team Bikeway.com. I ordered it during the winter with thoughts that I might try a race depending on how the legs felt by spring.
My husband quickly put his new kit to use, entering his first road race yesterday at the Johnny Cake Lane race series in Coxsackie, NY. It was windy. It was cold. There was a high-speed crash. People were getting dropped right and left. And I had an incurable urge to throw on my new kit and enter the mix. It’s time to get past the fear of old injuries and a bad experience mountain bike racing and start scanning BikeReg for possibilities. The fire inside me keeps burning stronger, my form is coming along, and best of all, I’ve learned to finally listen to my body and to give it the rest it needs.
Any first-time racing words of wisdom from my friends in blogland?
